The Chengdu J-20 (codenamed "Weilong") is an invisible fifth-generation air superiority fighter aircraft, featuring high stealth, high situational awareness, and high maneuverability. It is the latest generation of twin-engine heavyweight stealth fighter developed by the People's Liberation Army (PLA), replacing the third-generation air superiority/multi-role fighters such as the J-10 and J-11. This aircraft will be responsible for safeguarding China's sovereignty in the air and at sea in the future
On October 13, 2019, the J-20 fighter aircraft was deployed to the elite units of the People's Liberation Army Air Force. On June 18, 2021, multiple heroic units of the Chinese Air Force were equipped with the domestically produced stealth fighter J-20. In November, media reported that the J-16D electronic warfare aircraft had been put into practical combat training and could seamlessly accompany the J-20 in combat. On September 27, 2022, at the press conference for the 14th China Airshow, Air Force spokesperson Colonel Shen Jinke stated, "China's fifth-generation fighter aircraft, the J-20, has been deployed across the 'four corners of the country'"; from November 8 to 13, the 14th China Airshow was held in Zhuhai, Guangdong, and the J-20 was showcased at the airshow. On November 28, 2024, the remains of the 11th batch of Chinese People's Volunteers in Korea martyrs returned to China, with two J-20s escorting and providing protection for the Y-20 transport aircraft carrying out the repatriation mission in China's airspace.
